Somewhere in us we have to find the strength beyond heart tearing loss so as not to succumb. We may well wonder at why we live through any of the hardest parts, and may only conclude to put tomorrows to good use, to new experience, to pressing beyond what we know. That horror of close felt death to instruct and answer and lead rather than include ourselves in endings come too soon. Sarah, dear Sarah. She was right about Bleu and right about Christmas, but hadn’t yet figured she had it in her to make each day her own. Which animals we love can teach us best of all.

Well, I share Sarah’s loathing for holidays, but I can’t seem to get past the usual platitudes in response to this tribute. Such a lovely remembrance though.

Thank you Barbara and Gunta. Looking back now I see signs that I missed. Sarah offered to help me pack when I was leaving Florida, offered to help me find just the right new car to buy for my trip, and I didn’t pick up on the neediness of her requests.
Perhaps more chilling, we both purchased guns about the same time, and she wanted me to go to a concealed weapons class with her.
I knew about some of her ‘problems’ but she was such a party girl that I just assumed she had a large network of friends closer to her age.

A wonderful tribute, John…
